I am passionate about helping writers develop their work in whatever ways they need; whether that be through workshops to help them generate work, detailed manuscript feedback or longer-term mentoring for a particular project. I’m also really interested in hearing what help and support individual writers need and working with them to achieve this.
Workshops
I am experienced in facilitating workshops with adults of all levels of writing experience and ability. My experience has included work with the Stanley and Audrey Burton Gallery at Leeds University, the Poetry School, Writing Yorkshire, Leeds Museums, the WEA, Elsecar Heritage Trust and Barnsley’s Cooper Gallery. I have become experienced and confident in tailoring my workshops to fit with various groups, learning styles and environments.
See my Forthcoming page for details of future workshops.
If you’re interested in working with me as a freelance workshop facilitator, or have any general questions, please contact me.
“Feedback from participants is always 100% positive and it is a pleasure to have her here in the Gallery. Suzannah is very professional, always prepared and is engaging, thoughtful and intelligent when going about working with the Gallery team as well as the workshop attendees. I cannot recommend her highly enough as an arts and education professional. It is always a pleasure to work with her.”

Mentoring
I have received mentoring training and have worked with Writing Yorkshire, The Poetry Business and as a freelancer, providing advice, setting goals and giving feedback. I find mentoring an absolute joy – I love getting to know a writers’ work and help them progress towards their goals. I would be happy to work with you on putting together a collection or pamphlet, so let me know what you’re working on and we can put together a rough idea of what you’d like.
I’m flexible in meeting mentoring needs, both online or in person, and for as many sessions as suits you. If you’re interested in mentoring please contact me with your questions. I will first discuss the sort of support you are looking for, and will probably ask to read a few of your poems to make sure that I think I’d be the right person to work with you.
A rough cost guide is £60 per hour but I’m happy to discuss this on an individual basis.
“Suzannah is a wonderful mentor and I loved the sessions that we had together over six months. There was so much to love about our time together but what I enjoyed the most was that Suzannah allowed me to think big, to unshackle the issues that were holding me back and best of all to create. I approached Suzannah for help to start writing a second poetry collection. At our first session I had written one poem, by the time of our last session I had written over a 100 poems. I would totally recommend Suzannah as a mentor to any poet.”

“I have no hesitation in recommending Suzannah as a mentor, working with her was a wonderful experience. Her approach was both professional and friendly in tone, successfully striking a great balance between encouragement and criticism.”
Kay Buckley, mentored through Writing Yorkshire.
